E3 2009: The Return of Gaming Focus
E3 + You = Happiness
For the last few months, maybe even throughout the entire year, I had lost my love of gaming. At best, my love was split 50/50. I loved 50% what it was all about. Entertainment, cool experiences, having fun and doing cool things in games. Gaming as certainly expanded in the console and handheld space so much this generation. While this has always been a fact, there are now games for everyone out there but this time, they all know about it.
The other 50% of gaming is a terrible place. Discussing gaming and games themselves have turned into a dangerous prospect. I dare say it's almost as bad as talking about politics. If you dare do, prepare for the worst. System warriors, fanboys, fangirls, close minded loons and absolute sales freaks. If a game doesn't sell some pie in the sky, made up number formed in the heads of gamers who don't realize how truly ignorant they are, the game is a failure. They will push that "fact" everywhere they can until it's seen as true. Their sense of entitlement is both aweinspiring and disgusting. I despise these people.
Gaming "journalists" have gotten in on the trend as well. After all, you get more hits on your website if you post something negative or fanboyish to get a rise out of one side or another than you would actually discussing actual games. They will play a role on their podcasts to get more downloads the incite more talk and barking from people that might not have listened to their show before. Most of them have fallen into the trap of thinking they are more important than they truly are. They will proclaim winners and losers, bombs and successes while losing focus and the love of what made them start their writing in the first place. Games. Let it be known. I despise these "journalists."
